Craven College Student's Countryside Live Assignment
An idea created by a Craven College student, Victoria Gregory, to promote this
year’s Countryside Live event will be displayed on a screen overlooking the Main
Ring at the region’s leading countryside event - the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate
(Tuesday 8 July – Thursday 10 July).
Yorkshire Agricultural Society, which organises both Countryside Live and its
sister event, the Great Yorkshire Show, teamed up with Otley-based design agency
Biskit and held a competition for students at Craven College, Skipton, to create
a multimedia design for the show.
Victoria Gregory, the competition winner, said: “It’s been really good to work
with both companies. The project was realistically set and we had to keep to
a realistic budget.”
The students were given a design brief and were asked to create a 30 second multimedia
project aimed at farmers and children which needed to include the current Countryside
Live logo. The students had eight weeks to produce it before pitching their ideas
to Deborah Goodall, Marketing Manager at Yorkshire Agricultural Society, and Edward
Ryder, Director of Biskit.
Deborah Goodall was impressed by the high standard of entries and said: “Victoria
understood the brief and clearly demonstrated she had researched the show. She
stuck to the brand guidelines and made improvements other than those requested.”
William Lambert, Lecturer in Graphic Design and Multimedia at Craven College,
thanked Yorkshire Agricultural Society and Biskit for giving his students a brilliant
opportunity to work on a prestigious project.
“They all went through the highs and lows of working to a commercial design brief
with all the corporate, financial and time constraints that are involved in producing
imaginative, innovative designs for a client. I feel this valuable experience
will enhance their appreciation of their chosen industry and help prepare them
for the rigors of their chosen specialism at university,” said Mr Lambert.
Victoria, who is studying Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, will have her
creation shown on screens at the Great Yorkshire Show. She also receives four
tickets to the Great Yorkshire Show and a trophy, which was presented to her at
Craven College’s end of year show. Biskit are providing her with a Mac laptop
and a book of her choice. Countryside Live takes place on Saturday 25 and Sunday
26 October at the Great Yorkshire Showground.
